This is the bigger cousin of the clegfly. I think it is called a deerfly. Tabanus bovinus. I cropped it to show the details.

Wim, that looks just like our Deerflies here in the USA. They really bug you when they fly around your head and when you do not hear them, it usually means they are on you somewere Very nice Wim.....

That last shot is killer Wim. I notice the eye patterns are much different here than in the other fly.
