Hi ya' Rik, :D With the ones that don't, what happens if you forget and leave it on? According to Chuck Westfall, Canon consumer rep, the IS on all of the other IS lenses will create a feedback loop. Those lenses have to have more highly detectable levels of camera shake to function properly. If mou...

For Rik...Dragonfly photo'ed with stacked tc's.

Hi ya' Riik, :D Here is a dragonfly (Blue Dasher) that was photographed with the 1.4x and 2x tc's stacked on the 300mm f 2.8L IS lens... http://www.photomacrography1.net/images/dragonfly2.jpg This is about a 75% crop of the full frame. The dragonfly was about 15' from the shoreline. Stacking the two...

Thanks for all of the nice comments, my friends. :D Rik...IS on a tripod is the difference between sharp and critically sharp. Shooting dragonflies, birds, any mobile nature subject, you cannot lock-down the controls on the tripod and use mirror-lockup as you can with static subjects. The tripod con...

Hi ya' Ken, :D However I would be ashamed of myself Tom. There you are using state of the art photo equipment and the poor wife, who cleans your house, cooks your meals, washes your cloths, and probably spends most of your money (well, no ones perfect) has to make do with a "point and shoot" camera ...

Flame Skimmer Dragonfly at 600mm.

Hi y'all, :D Dragonfly photography was one of the things I was most looking forward to doing when I got my 300mm f 2.8L IS lens. I was hoping I could put a teleconverter on the lens and reach some of those impossible to photograph dragonflies. Here's a dragonfly using the 300mm f 2.8 lens + the 2x t...

Hi ya' Carl, Don't know about anyone else, but I'm jealous! I don't think you would be all that jealous if you saw the bill :!:  :D Hi ya' Mike, :D Back in "the day", when I got my bright shiny new 100-400L lens, I was so excited about my ability to take mammal closeups that I seriously consi...

Canon EOS Rebel XT...First impressions.

Hi y'all, :D I purchased a Canon EOS Rebel XT (350D) digital SLR about three weeks ago and I wanted to share with y'all my experiences with this camera. Hey ya' Rik, :D Outdated chips in lenses generally don't produce intermittent errors. However, certain Sigma lenses (the old 300mm f. 4 and 400mm f. 5.6 HSM lenses for Canon come to mind) will function fine at full aperture but yield ERR99 when the lenses are stopped down. Other older lenses may giv...
