:D That my friend is a very good image. Like the algae there on the right, makes for good contrast. Lots of detail too! 8)

Mayorella viridis

Image taken using Zeiss Axiostar Plus @ 400X (40X A-Plan Zeiss) http://www.photomacrography1.net/images/Ameba_(A).JPG :? I ran across these things and have been trying to find out what class, order, genus, or species to which they belong. Searched the Protist Info Serv. and "how to know the Protozoa...

A very beautiful image that you have captured there Frez. I have always found diatoms to be the most detailed art work of mother nature. That is very nice indeed, suitable for enlargment and framing, don't you think? :)

Euglena acus, 50-175um

I often wondered what these were! After consulting, "how to know the Protozoa", I found out. There are many species of Euglena and not all of them are green, so that identification of the protozoan can be sort of difficult. Euglena acus is one of those; "body a long spindle, pointed at rear; slightl...

You know Graham, I could be wrong, and probably am, but it seems that Stereo microcscopes are so under rated because of their low power. Of course some can attain a very high degree of magnification but DOF becomes a big problem. Anyway, there is a lot to be said for them in the exploration of natur...

:D Very nice indeed, I love that detail, you've done an outstanding job in capturing the image. I do believe it is Oxtytricha, Hypotrichea are some hard protozoa to identify sometimes. I now believe my previous post is probably Histriculus, after some browsing on the Protist Info. Serv. I hope to on...

"An Old Mans Beard"

Usnea fillipendula or an Old Mans Beard/Fishbone lichen. It seems that these lichens are always growning around or under pine trees or sometimes even on limbs and branches of trees here in the mountains of Western North Carolina. Lichens are an indicator species which relate to the air quality of th...

:D Tom, I just happened to be browsing the net and came across your question. My technique is quite simple for my model of microsocpe. Yours maybe the same, I am not sure. Anyway, directly below my condenser diaphram I have three filter trays. On the top tray I place a light blue diffusion filter wi...

:D Thanks Danny, I am pleased that everyone likes the image and thanks for dropping by my MSN Group Site. It isn't much but it is fun to play around with. I am hoping to add more images to the site very soon with all of them having been taken through the Axiostar Plus.

:D Piotr! Glad you like it, I was very surprised and elated when Tom notified me that the photo had been selected. I was just scanning a wet mount looking for something new and interesting when this little guy skittered across the field. Placing the old "dime" in the condenser tray and using a Zeiss...

:o piotr, you are the master of microphotography, my hat is off to you my friend. Very good photograph, the caudals are clearly visible as are some cirri, excellent. That was the kind of photograph I was hoping for. Maybe I will be able to do the same when and if I get the Zeiss Imaging package that...

Oxytricha fallax or Stylonychia pustulata?

http://www.photomacrography1.net/images/30.JPG These organisms are fast movers, photographing them is somewhat tricky without increasing the viscosity of the wet mount or sometimes you just get lucky. This photo is not as clear as I would like due to the fact that I had to do a "take it or leave it...
