Hi Frez :D Yes, I have that on my desk top. I have placed several comments on that NASA site but I get no replies or any acknowledgement from it. Under the "add comments" link and "read others comments" it turns up zero. I think I read somewhere in the fine print that it is still under construction....

:) I have probably seen these before but did not pay them too much attention because I was more focused on the Spirostomum. Since they are often found together, is there an interactive relationship between the two, something that they both share other than environmental conditions or habitat? What I...

Thar's Gold in these Hills!!?

I have noticed that there are a few members who, like myself, are from the state of North Carolina. For those of you who may not know, North Carolina is very rich in minerals and some of the finest quartz used in the micro-chip industry comes from North Carolina. Although there is some "green quartz...

:D You've been busy my friend. Just got finished viewing and replying to your Rotifer image. This is a good shot here, I think. Seldom do I ever catch anything at the right time "relieving" itself. Not that I go around trying to catch various organisms in the act of course (not into such things) :lo...

:? Just a guess here Graham, might it be Euchlanis? I looked around the web and that was the best I could come up with. Good image, they are hard to catch at the right moment, as you stated, and I find them to be pests at times but there are some species that I would like to see personally that are ...

:) I can relate to that, experienced the same situation myself. You made me feel a little better Tom, knowing that I am not the only one to overlook the obvious. An enjoyabe read indeed. And, you are right, as I believe someone else mentioned sometime ago, that you have to look closely and intently ...

:D I thought so but wasn't sure. I went back to the PID and looked everything back up. It does reference the algae as dipicted in my image! I think we can positively i.d. these ameba as M. viridis. I need to pay more attention to my resources, I sometimes get in too much of a hurry (better layoff th...

:) Graham: It seems as though there is evidence of algae in the ameba or some pigmentation to that effect. Evidence of a WEV in some of the others (out of focus but still visible). Do you know which species that Patterson references? I do not have the publication but I have placed it on my list of b...

These ameba could belong to Mayorella spp. I found something similar to them on the Protist Info Database out of Montreal, Canada, http://megasun.bch.umontreal.ca/protists/protists.html
