Hi Frez, I'm pretty sure it's one of those four-spined Lagerheimia sp. (L chodatii?)
If it is common you could come across them with 4 miniature cells (autospores) within the mothercell, defenitive proof of Oocystis-like things.

What you make of no1?

Rene.

Hi Piotr, Nothing special, we get 1 liter surface water samples in and sieve 30-50 ml through 10µm sieve, put the concentrate in a 2ml cuvet and count 200-400 organisms. This is really only a check for toxic algae, not quantitative as the samples are 1-2 days in transit anyway... Marsdiep is a rich ...

probably sample drying up slowly. Gently anayway, because when stress levels are getting too high, it will swim from it's lorica.
BTW, they should be phagotropic as well as autotrophic, ever saw one snapping up a bacterium?

Thanks Charlie, I have a bit of red-green colour brightness, really must look at blown up details to have a proper look. Nice, I'm intrigued by those organelles. There are predatory dinoflagellates with eyespots, and those include a lens! Amazing for a unicellular critter, still looking out for one!...
