Nice call on the nucleus. I hadn't seen it. Stalked cilates and other moving objects are a problem for the DP10. It just can't stop motion fast enough for a clear image and does't have provisions to sync with a flash.

Hi Guys The specimen came out of my pond water aquarium. It was drawn out of a clump of algae that had been there for a couple of weeks. The sample also contained a large number of Centropyxis and Difflugia. At first I though this was a Cyphoderia sp., but couldn't find one that needed a haircut. It...

Hi Piotr Thanks, but I have a long way to go before mastering fluorescence. Optically the scopes are very close. There may be a slight edge to the transmitted illumination system in the 120. Ergonomically I like the 120. The filter wheels are in a more convenient place as is the adjustment knob for ...

Revealing Fluorescence

At first glance in bright field this subject looked like a small collection of debris. Fluorescence revealed an interesting structure. I would guess it is a plant of some sort. The specimen came from a freshwater pond. http://www.photomacrography1.net/images/Matrix_01.jpg Here we can see round cells...

Very nice Charlie. The 4x objective looks alright. The algae itself is just fine. So you are now a salty sea dog!

Hi Piotr That's very interesting! You must've had a good time. Do you think the next step is to also synthesize the organic structure that controls the system? Did they cover how these micro structures would perform their tasks? Also, did you collect the Radiolarian sample yourself? I'm thinking abo...
