The label of the slide used the word "Mannite", this is an extract or sugar-alcohol from a fungi. Used polarized light and a 1st order-red wave plate (125x). The images was taken with an Olympus digital DP-12 camera.

Second picture of the same Argentine ant using simple crossed polarizers. Taken at 100 diameters with a Swift SRL microscope, the camera was an Olympus PM-6 and the film Kodachrome slide film.
