These are lovely pictures Teva. Do be aware however, that not many people will be on this site, we've all moved to the new site photomacrography2.net (link at the top). I don't know if/when the new site will be renamed to coincide with this one but thought I would mention that most of the folks here...

Post Processing

What do most of you do for post processing images? What products do you use and how? Do you capture in RAW or JPEG? If you capture in RAW, what do youthink about Capture One: http://www.phaseone.com/ . I've downloaded the free trial of C1 LE and just wonder what people think of it vs Photoshop's RAW...

Thanks for allowing the free mailer sites for a short time. I like to keep my work and personal separate. I should really set up an account with my domain (photo-op.ca) I guess, but I'm trying to avoid spam like crazy and the way I have it ensures I do.

Nice capture Jody. Very crisp. However, the low ISO setting and the fast speed, caused the image to be a bit dark (unless of course that was your intent). I'd up the ISO to 100 or 200 and leave the rest of the settings alone, or maybe use a levels adjustment layer in PhotoShop to brighten the image ...

with that kind of setup (macro lens. 2x teleconverter, and some extension tubes) I can't imagine how close you are to get the detail in this shot. I used a couple extension tubes on my 50mm prime lens to take a picture of a flower petal (Petal's Edge in this forum) and my lens is practically sitting...

The only downside to this approach is a live bug would rarely cooperate enough to take a lot of shots of it but I see the appeal for macro objects that don't move a lot.

Thanks for the description George.

Boy he sure looks mean. Hate to meat him in a dark alley.

You said the image was created from 13 stacked images. did you take 13 pics or something with different DOF settings? Can you explain this a bit more and why you would do this?

I have to hang my head in shame not knowing the people whereof you speak, however, one of the greatest in my mind is Mark Plonsky: http://www.mplonsky.com/photo/ Absolutely AMAZING macro work with just a Point & Shoot Canon G6 and some well purchased equipment. Go take a look. It's the kind of macro...

Actually, that doesn't look like Pixar, more like Dreamworks. But it does look like a fun film. I'm kind of reminded of the Magic Schoolbus episode where the class makes a movie about ants, gets shrunk down to ant size and observe an ant colony.

I don't know of any catepillars that sting. Most of those "spines" are for looks to would be predators.

Nice pic too. I really like the blue on your subject.
