I love damselflies. This is a really pleasing shot with great colors and sharpness. You really captured it all here. Great plane of focus and background.

Thanks. Polarizers sound great. I'm used to using Canon polarizers for EF lenses. For this setup, I have a Nikon Coolpix 5000. This will require looking into. Not sure if anything'll fit between the UR-E6 and MDC. I like the glass surface idea since the water surface is currently shaped like sand du...

How will this underwater city fare?

Roughly a teaspoon of fresh aquatic moss in a few tablespoons of steam water. It sat for a few hours in a dish, and in warming up, came to life a bit. After an hour or so looking at an interesting variety of critters, I decided not to toss the little ecosystem. A blank cd fit perfectly over the dish...

Thanks for the input. This is helpful. Checked the firmware and it is 1.8 :D I am under the mistaken impression that the diffuser would help stop the reflections. That was my intention. What's the deal? The water is quite shallow, and with moss shoots protruding out - and all the surface tension - t...

Do you think some sort of diffuser (maybe a dome) is necessary or useful?

Just got the Coolpix but I heard about the double flash problem. Was this ever corrected in a firmware upgrade.

Thanks for your input. :)

Flash advice for macroscopy

Well it has become glaringly obvious that photographing fast moving aquatic critters at 10 - 30x (copepods and all) isn't going to happen without flash. Having spent a few hours looking into it, I'm hopelessly unsure. My rig includes a Coolpix 5000 sitting atop a leica c-mount, above 3 leica fixed f...

Aquatic moss in a stereoscope!

I'm completely new to this and am insanely thrilled at what lives there. Under a stereoscope at 30x, some of these creatures are downright monsterous. A soupy sample left to warm for a few hours is a shocking orgy of wriggling, emerging larvae, intense traffic congestion and anything goes gluttony! ...
