I used a small softbox for the first shot. http://members.lycos.nl/eddysign/softbox1.jpg This backswimmer was on the surface collecting air, so this is not taken underwater. The two other shots where taken inside an aquarium, shot through the glass. Lit by a flash on a tripod and shot through a whit...

The flash will freeze all the action.

Ants like my new lens

My new MP-E 65mm arived last week. I used to work with stacked lenses but this lens is a dream. For me it is much easier to use, gives a much better quality and bigger workingdistance. I realy love this lens. Here are some first shots of ants. Drinking http://members.lycos.nl/eddysign2/Macro/mier25k...

Yet another way to get 3:1 or more

Another test to get 3:1 or more I want to make portraits of ants so I need 3:1. Like this one i did last summer http://members.lycos.nl/eddysign/Macro/luizen1.jpg For that shot I used a 100mm + reversed 50mm. The downside is that the workingdistance is very small, just 2cm. So I am searching for ano...

Another way to reduce highlights is to use indirect flash.
It works great on shiny beetles and ants.
See: http://www.photomacrography1.net/forum/ ... php?t=2537
It might help others too.

Yes they realy watch you, they walk away and turn around to look at you.
I saw one today cathing a litle fly (while i was looking trough the lens), it was a realy quick and short jump.
Unfortunately i was too late to take a picture.
