Charlie,

Beautiful subject and composition. Amazing details. Incredible pictures. They make me want to touch the fly (even though it is very nasty).

Have you used 3D stacking program here?

Thank you! :-) Ken, you might be right. I'm not sure. I'm not a bird expert at all :-) But perhaps the bird majestic posture is confusing. Here is a couple of other shots of the same bird: http://www.pirx.com/gallery/albums/utah_animals/raven2_small.jpg http://www.pirx.com/gallery/albums/utah_animal...

Oops... I forgot that 800 pixels is a longest side limit, not only width. I replaced it with a rescaled version.

Thanks, Doug and Rik, for your kind words!

Antelope Canyon, Page, AZ

I just returned from a trip to southern Utah and northern Arizona. I visited many beautiful places on my way, but this one was truly magical, even though lighting was not very good (it was a cloudy day.) http://www.pirx.com/gallery/albums/antelope/ante23.jpg http://www.pirx.com/gallery/albums/antelo...

Portrait of a raven

I'm not sure if this picture qualifies as a close-up, but I shot it with a macro lens!

A raven in Bryce Canyon National Park. The bird was very cooperative.

A worm or a snail?

http://www.pirx.com/gallery/albums/mollusks/verm1.jpg http://www.pirx.com/gallery/albums/mollusks/verm2.jpg It is a snail! Vermetids are marine snails that occupy calcareous tubes. They superficially look like worms. There is a little "door" (operculum) at the end of the tube. The snail releases ba...

Remarkable pictures! Very "Charlie-esque" feel! Excellent details and very pleasant color tones, as usual. :-)

I can see you have got the 1.67x eyepiece, at last! Can you photograph the entire field of view now?

Wim, this is absolutely outstanding. I can't imagine better pictures. The details of the nuclear division are incredible. Your pictures made me to read a corresponding chapter in Ralph Wichterman's book, "The Biology of Paramecium" (1953). Here are some interesting and weird facts I have found: - "....
