Nice stentor pictures Ken. These are incredibly fascinating creatures to watch. Each time I find one, I watch it for hours :)

You did a great job blending the critter into the background. It looks seamless and natural! It's a very time consuming task though--one I usually give up on in about 10 minutes.

Stunning image Gerd! The detail is fantastic. The video is great too. It's always nice to capture the motion of micro critters because it's so interesting!

Beautiful image Graham! The gray phase background really makes it look nice. Kind of like a rainbow against a dark grey stormy sky.

Excellent photo Charlie! I ran across one of these a few months back and got some phase pictures. It was much larger and appeared to be recently dead or encysted. However your pictures here are much better than mine. A very interesting creature. I think it is a Meniodium colorless euglenid. Steve

It's a great image--congrats! About the sharpening--you say it usually causes more pixelation. Do you mean of the background or the image or both? You can control a lot of this pixelation by choosing a threshold of 5 or 10. That means the sharpener will not attempt to sharpen stuff with too low of a...

I usually eat!! KenR probably thinks I'll be dead of some horrible pathogenic thingy within a year or two!! Seriously, I don't do anything. I figure all this stuff has to be good for my immune system! My spleen and liver feel a bit funny though ...

HI and Welcome, I'm not sure what to say about the microscope and price range. Hopefully you could find something used for that price. It sounds like a brightfield scope only will suit your needs which will help in the pricing. 50 to 500 um is a large range size. It sounds like you will need 5, 10, ...

Great image Sue! It looks like you were using oblique lighting. The image detail is excellent. I've never seen the oral groove (or whatever it is) so nicely.

Thanks much Paul! Also thanks to Sue and Mike for some pointers. I'm not sure I could ever carry around re/deflectors and the like. Waiting for sunset/rise is a great idea, but not always practical. The flash fill sounds great. I just snagged a Minolta ADI wireless TTL flash for my A2, and the poten...
