Jody, Yep, that sure looks like a mite, and if your finger is about 15mm wide like mine, then the mite is only about 0.6mm body length. Indeed a tiny little guy! Ken, there's nothing magic about macro lenses vs compound microscope. At the end of the day it's all a matter of aperture and aberrations...
