Copyright infringements and bandwidth theft...

Hi y'all :D Earlier today we had an issue with another website stealing images and bandwidth from our forums and galleries. I would like you all to know that this issue was dealt with decisively as we take copyright infringements seriously. The offending website has been removed from the Internet :!...

Triangular rotifer?

Hi y'all :D I was "playing" with some pond water last night and got quite a surprise. Have any of you ever observed a rotifer that was triangular in cross-section :?: When viewed head-on, this rotifer was triangular in shape with the sides of the triangle pushed in towards the center. Weird. Have an...

Hi ya' Ryan :D Beware of the cheap prices for the digital Rebel on eBay. Most (not all) are scams to get your money without you getting a camera. I use eBay a lot for microscopy related purchases but some of the biggest scams on eBay have been with the dSLRs. You can buy the digital Rebel from B&H P...

Hi ya' Michael :D I'm not sure of the family for this fly, either. It is easier to ID flies from a top view where I can see the wing venation. However, besides promoting digestion, the "bubble blowing" also helps the fly maintain its body temperature. You'll see wasps do this, too, when temperatures...

Hi ya' Graham! :D To quote 2001: A Space Odyssey : "My God! It's full of stars!" :D WOW! These are neat! I have yet to begun to explore plants with my microscope. I had no idea that plant structures respond to polarized light. This is one more thing to add to my "to do" list. Thanks for sharing this...

Hi ya' Ryan :D Shooting macro images isn't just about how close you can focus on a subject. It is very much dependent on how long the focal length of the lens that you can focus close. You'll get more image magnification with a 200mm lens at 13 cm than you will a 28mm lens at 13 cm. As regards the M...

Hello Ryan :D I think a lot of us got our start in photography in our teens. In this case I think the best way to go is to get what you can afford now and start shooting and learning. Consumer digital cameras have come a long way in improving image quality and can make some very fine images. The ima...

How do you guys get such good darkfield images?

Hi ya' guys :!: Sorry I haven't been around much lately. Demands at my new job have limited my time immensely. That and I've been working to bring another forum online, too. My apologies to all. How do you guys get such nice darkfield images? I have worked hard to re-center my objectives with the su...

Nice one, Graham. :D

I love Closterium. They're like big, green bananas. I've noticed the activities in the tips, too. From what little I have read this may be due to "crystals" (of what I don't know) that are stored in the tips. Very nice darkfield work, my friend.

Best regards as always, :D

I don't really have a problem with hands and fingers in images. Sometimes you need something like that to lend a sense of scale.

Best regards to all,

Hi ya' ottl :D I have PS 6.0 and Psp 7.0. Psp is a great program and I really like the animated .gif program with it. However, I have used PS since version 3.0 and have grown so accustomed to the PS interface that Psp feels alien to me. If you need a very broad range of features, critical color cont...

Hi ya' Graham :D I think this is one useful filter. I just checked Photoshop 6.0 to see if there is a similar filter. Nope. I guess I'll have to buy Paintshop Pro. I think this filter brings out a lot of creature features (sorry, I couldn't help myself) that otherwise would be overlooked. Thanks for...
